2 Ways To Help Your Exterminator Get Rid Of Squirrels

If you think that you have squirrels living in your attic, you want to make sure that you get rid of them as soon as possible. They can destroy your insulation, make a huge mess, and nibble on your wiring. You need to call an exterminator to come out and take care of the problem for you. You'll also need to take care of other things before the exterminator gets to your house. The following tips can help to get rid of the problem or to at least keep it from getting worse.

Get Rid of Food Sources

One of the biggest things you can do to get rid of the squirrels is to get rid of their food source. If they don't have access to easy food, that makes your house that much less attractive. If you have bird feeders up, you might want to take them down or at least empty them for a little while since bird feeders are a prime target for squirrels. They can easily raid them and store the food so that they can get at it later. You may also want to make sure that you cover your trash so that the squirrels can't get into it. While squirrels don't usually get into your trash, it's better not to tempt them when you are trying to get rid of them.

Find Their Access

If you can find where they are getting into your attic, you can point that area out to the exterminator, which will give them a jump start on getting them out of your house. Squirrels don't need to have very big holes to get into your house. Basically, as long as they can get their head through the hole, they can manage to get the rest of their body in as well. You want to walk around your house, looking up around your soffit and your eaves. You might want to take a flashlight with you to shine it at any areas you are concerned about to make sure that you are getting the best view of anything that might be there. If you think that you see something or do happen to catch a squirrel coming out of your attic, make sure that you take note of the place to show the exterminator.

Squirrels may look all cute and fluffy while they are running around outside, but they are much less cute and fluffy when they are in your attic, destroying your house. If you think you have a problem, call local pest control services for help.
